Manchester United have welcomed the official launch of the Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation (OTR MDC), a body which will be a key element in the massive regeneration project of the Old Trafford area and the creation of the club’s new stadium. This was reported by the press service of the Red Devils.

OTR MDC will be responsible for the transformation of the 370-acre site around Old Trafford. The project involves the construction of more than 15,000 new housing units, the creation of about 90,000 jobs, the development of public spaces and large-scale infrastructure improvements for fans, residents and guests of the city.

A key element of the plan is to support Manchester United’s ambition to construction of a new stadium for 100,000 seatswhich should set new standards of atmosphere and fan experience in world football. All of the planned changes are expected to add more than £7 billion a year to the UK economy.

Manchester United Chief Operating Officer Collette Roche commented on the event:

“We are honored to represent Manchester United at the launch of the Old Trafford Regeneration Mayoral Development Corporation. Our aim is to build the best football stadium in the world, worthy of our fans, our history and our future. We want to create the best atmosphere and matchday experience in world football, whilst ensuring that the stadium is the catalyst for a dynamic new area for fans, residents and visitors.”

Today is a significant milestone for our club, for Trafford and for Greater Manchester. We would like to thank Lord Coe, Mayor Andy Burnham, Trafford Council, the Greater Manchester Association (GMCA) and all our partners and community members for their leadership and collaboration in helping us achieve this important milestone.”

The Chairman of the OTR MDC, Lord Coe, also emphasized the importance of the start of the project:

“Today is a defining moment, the start of the long-term work to transform the Old Trafford area. We’re getting started – and there’s a lot to do! Over the next few months we’ll be presenting our overall master plan and starting to turn that vision into reality.”

The launch of OTR MDC officially opens a new phase in Manchester United’s long-term strategy, which is set to transform not only the club’s home arena, but the entire Old Trafford area.
