The first day of negotiations between the delegations of Ukraine, the USA and Russia ended in the capital of the United Arab Emirates. According to the Secretary of the National Security Council Rustem Umerov, the parties talked about the parameters of ending the war and the further logic of the negotiation process. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umyerov announced the completion of the first day of negotiations in Abu Dhabi, where consultations were held between the Ukrainian, American and Russian delegations. He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
According to Umerov, the parameters of the possible end of the war and the further format of the negotiations became the key topic of the meetings. He emphasized that it is not about one-time contacts, but about building a certain logic of dialogue between the parties. “We discussed the parameters of the end of the war and the further logic of the negotiation process,” noted the secretary of the NSDC.
Umyerov said that on the Ukrainian side, the head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Budanov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Serhii Kyslytsia and the head of the Servant of the People faction David Arahamiya participated in the consultations. The Ukrainian team worked in close coordination and constantly kept in touch with the state leadership.
The American side was represented by an extended delegation. Special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Commissioner of the Federal Procurement Service Josh Gruenbaum, Secretary of the US Army General Daniel Driscoll, as well as the commander of NATO forces in Europe General Alex Hrynkevich joined the talks. According to Umerov, the Russian delegation was represented by officials from military intelligence and the armed forces. The Ukrainian side did not specify the details of their composition.
The Secretary of the National Security Council also announced the continuation of negotiations. The next round of meetings is scheduled for Saturday, January 24. They are to be joined by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Andriy Hnatov, and the Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Vadym Skibitsky.
Umyerov emphasized that the Ukrainian delegation reports to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi based on the results of each stage of the negotiations. “Based on the results of each stage, we inform the president,” he wrote. At the same time, the Ukrainian side emphasizes that it is still too early to make final conclusions about the content of the negotiations. Negotiations are ongoing, and the further course of the meetings will depend on the positions of all parties involved.
Also, the first conversation between Ukraine, the USA and the Russian Federation took place in Abu Dhabi.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi increased the composition of the Ukrainian delegation to participate in the tripartite negotiations between Ukraine, the USA and Russia, which will be held in the UAE.
