Earlier today, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, announced that as of 6:00 p.m., 1,200 high-rise buildings remained without heat supply in Kyiv, which were connected for the second time after the Russian strikes on January 9 and 20.
After the last massive attacks by the Russian Federation, the power system of Ukraine is in a state of emergency. In particular, on January 20, Kyiv suffered another attack by the Russian Federation, and 5,635 high-rise buildings were left without heat, almost 80 percent of them are houses to which the heat supply was returned after the shelling on January 9.

According to the mayor of the city Vitaliy Klitschko, the Russian attack on January 9 was the most painful for the city’s critical infrastructure. He emphasized that the situation is the most difficult in four years. Emergency blackouts have been ongoing in the city since then.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has been striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the fall of 2025, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector.
The Security Service of Ukraine qualifies Russia’s strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity. The SBU previously noted that since the beginning of this year’s heating season, it has documented at least 256 air attacks by the Russian Federation on energy facilities and heat supply systems of Ukraine.
