The US president has canceled Mark Carney’s participation in a new international body after his criticism of tariff policies and the world order.

The American leader announced this on Thursday in a post on the Truth Social platform.
In an address to Carney, Trump said the council was rescinding its invitation for Canada to participate in the organization, which he called “the most prestigious Council of Leaders that has ever convened.”
“Please let this letter serve as confirmation that the Peace Council is withdrawing its invitation for Canada to join the organization,” Trump wrote.
What precededEarlier in the day, the US President officially announced the creation of the “Peace Council” during events in Davos.
The body was originally planned as a limited body to oversee the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after the two-year war between Israel and Hamas. However, later the council’s mandate was significantly expanded – it should deal with the settlement of conflicts in different regions of the world. The draft charter sent to potential participants does not mention the Gaza issue at all.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has previously repeatedly criticized Trump’s actions, accusing him of undermining the “rules-based order” and imposing harsh trade tariffs. According to CNN, Carney was considering joining the Peace Council under certain conditions, but details, including financial ones, remained undecided.
The withdrawal of the invitation signals a further strain in political relations between Washington and Ottawa amid trade disputes and disagreements over foreign policy.
