The situation in the power system of the Kharkiv region remains critical due to daily shelling from the Russian Federation and frosty weather.
On January 22, 2026, Vyacheslav Kravtsov, Acting Director General of KharkivOblenergo, announced that ten rounds of emergency shutdowns and one additional round of special restrictions were introduced in the region on the instructions of Ukrenergo, reports Ukrinform.
Such measures are forced and used to prevent a complete collapse of the network after damage to a significant amount of equipment. As of Thursday evening, more than 400,000 subscribers are without electricity at the same time.
Emergency recovery crews are working around the clock, but the pace of repairs is significantly slowing down due to the low air temperature. Kravtsov emphasized that the enemy purposefully continues to destroy the infrastructure of the region, which makes the situation unstable and constantly changing. Energy experts call on residents to reduce consumption when possible during the periods when the light appears, so as not to overload the surviving power lines.
At night, the Russian military carried out attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, as a result of which consumers in three regions were cut off: Odesa, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions .
The government bears personal responsibility for stabilizing the energy situation in Ukraine and should present it in the near future a clear plan of action .
