In the Kyiv Natural Science Lyceum No. 145, a conflict arose between a student and a teacher due to an assignment in the Ukrainian literature class.

Eighth-grader Bo Kanishevich said that during distance learning, the teacher asked the class to analyze Alexander Pushkin’s work “Bakhchisarai Fountain”, and this outraged the schoolboy.

According to the student, the analysis of the work took place within the framework of the textbook topic “Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars”, but he called the very fact of the appearance of the Russian author in the lesson of Ukrainian literature unacceptable.

The schoolboy said that during the lesson he raised his hand and directly said that Pushkin is an “emperor” and has nothing to do with Ukrainian literature. He also noted that the class was held online due to power supply problems.

Because Kanishevich claims that after his reply, the teacher explained: the work allegedly demonstrates Crimean Tatar culture, and it is part of the Ukrainian cultural space.

After the dispute, the student left the lesson early, and later made public his homework — to write the content and plan of the work, adding a photo of the task to the post.

In his message, he connected the presence of Russian classics in education with the wider context of the war and imperial policy of the Russian Federation.
