The company confirmed that the tragedy occurred during work on the damaged infrastructure. Brecht was 47 years old, more than 24 of them he devoted to work at Ukrenergo.
Colleagues and partners call him the “brain of Ukrenergo” and one of the key figures who held the technical circuit of restoring the power system after the attacks.
Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the ex-head of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo”, said that Brecht coordinated the network repair processes after the “arrivals” and actually managed the recovery in critical areas.
According to him, under Brecht’s leadership, repair crews learned to change main transformers 4-6 times faster than operators of European power systems, and also to work under a voltage of 750,000 volts.
Kudrytskyi also noted that with the participation of Brecht, engineering solutions for additional protection appeared – in particular, the design of shelters for transformers and underground control points.
He emphasized that Brecht could have remained in the offices, but instead often worked directly at the damaged substations.
Separately, Kudrytskyi emphasized the principles of the deceased engineer, noting that he did not take steps that he considered incompatible with his own dignity.
