The leader of the world ranking of the APR Carlos Alcaraz of Spain made it to the third round of the 2026 Australian Open.

In the second round, the Spaniard lost in three sets Yannick Hanfmann (Germany, ATP 102) in 2 hours and 46 minutes.

In the first game, Carlitos fought back from a score of 1:3, when he was trailing with one break.

Alcaraz had a third confrontation against Hanfmann. In the first round, he fought with Adam Walton.

Carlos is undefeated (22–0) in Grand Slam tournaments against opponents outside the ATP top 100, with 12 of those victories coming in three sets.

Since the introduction of 32 seeds at the majors in 2001, Alcaraz’s match with Muthe will be only the second men’s singles meeting between the No. 1 and No. 32 seeds, following Roger Federer and Nicolas Massa at Roland Garros in 2006.
