As of the morning of January 21, 2026, the energy system of Ukraine is under significant pressure due to new night and morning attacks by Russian troops on energy facilities.
According to the official announcement of the National Electric Power Company “Ukrenergo”, consumers were most affected in four regions – Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Zaporizhia and Kharkiv, where new blackouts were recorded. In addition, the situation in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where energy companies are still overcoming the consequences of previous massive strikes, remains critically difficult.
Due to the shortage of power and damage to networks in a number of regions, it was necessary to introduce emergency emergency shutdowns that operate outside of any schedules. In those areas, where the situation is more controlled, planned hourly restrictions for the population and capacity limitation schedules for industrial enterprises are applied. Despite the difficult conditions, electricity consumption on Wednesday morning increased by 4.5% compared to the previous day, which puts an additional load on the surviving nodes of the system.
Energy experts call on all citizens to be as frugal as possible throughout the day. In particular, it is recommended to completely limit the use of energy-intensive appliances, such as washing machines, boilers and electric heaters, or at least postpone their operation to night time (after 11:00 p.m.). Disaster recovery work continues in a continuous mode wherever the security situation allows, but the timing of system stabilization currently depends on the intensity of further attacks.
In the Chernihiv region, a special schedule of emergency shutdowns is in effect, as a result of which 87% of consumers are currently without electricity.
We will remind, in the Rivne region, the morning attack left more than 10,000 households without electricity.
