On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, due to critical damage to the power system after a massive attack, strict blackout schedules will be in effect in all regions of Ukraine.
NEC “Ukrenergo” and regional operators report the application of 4 to 5 rounds of blackouts at the same time, which for many consumers means the absence of light for most of the day.
In Kyiv and the region, the situation remains the most difficult — there are emergency shutdowns, during which the light can be on for only 3 hours per shift, followed by 10 hours without electricity. In Poltava, Zaporizhzhya, Khmelnytskyi and other regions, minute-by-minute schedules have been made public, where three or four periods of outages per day are foreseen in separate queues. For example, in the Poltava region, the schedule provides for blackouts according to the scheme, where the total duration of the absence of light may exceed 14–16 hours.
For industrial facilities, capacity restrictions will apply throughout the day — from 00:00 to 24:00. Energy experts emphasize that in case of deterioration of the situation or new attacks, it is possible to introduce additional emergency shutdowns without warning. Residents are asked to limit the use of electricity as much as possible during periods of its availability, so as not to cause network overload and accidents at transformer substations.
A massive missile-drone strike carried out by Russian troops during the night and morning of January 20 resulted in significant damage to generation facilities, as well as electricity transmission and distribution networks throughout the country. Due to the complex nature of the damage, many regions have been forced to implement strict emergency consumption restrictions that operate outside the previously published schedules.
In the Chernihiv region, a special schedule of emergency shutdowns is in effect, as a result of which 87% of consumers are currently without electricity.
