Details: Journalists asked the president if he sees a parallel between the current criminal case against the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” party, Yulia Tymoshenko, and her persecution during the time of Viktor Yanukovych’s rule, and whether there is a connection with the upcoming elections.

What preceded:
- On the evening of January 13, NABU and SAP announced that they had exposed Yulia Tymoshenko for corruption, in particular for offering bribes to a number of people’s deputies for voting “for” or “against” specific draft laws.
- Later, Tymoshenko announced that the party’s office had been searched, but she denied all the accusations.
- In the recordings made public by NABU, Tymoshenko discusses with an unknown deputy the system of payment for specific votes in the Verkhovna Rada, also in the bureau’s video you can see how, during the searches, Tymoshenko found a paper package of “Nova Poshta” with four bundles of US dollars.
- On January 16, the Higher Anti-Corruption Court imposed a preventive measure on Tymoshenko in the form of bail in the amount of 33 million 280 thousand hryvnias. As of the morning of January 20, more than a third of the amount had already been paid for the leader of “Batkivshchyna”.
