On January 20, 2026, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court sentenced the former President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, to 15 years in prison, finding him guilty of taking over 17.5 hectares of forest land on the territory of the Sukholu District Council.
As reported by SAP, the court established that in 2007, Yanukovych, while in the position of prime minister, initiated a scheme to appropriate the plot of the Dnipro-Teteriv Forestry Farm worth over UAH 22 million. For the implementation of the facility, bogus persons were involved, who received the land allegedly for personal use, after which the plots were transferred to the ownership of a firm controlled by Yanukovych.
In 2009–2011, a hotel and restaurant complex was built on the occupied territory, which was used for the personal needs of the former official. Yanukovych’s accomplice was also found guilty, but he was released from serving his sentence due to the expiration of the term of prosecution. The sentence will enter into force in 30 days, unless it is appealed. The investigation of the case, which began in 2014, was carried out by NABU and SAP after the transfer of materials from the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine.
Earlier, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HCC) confiscated all the property of ex-president Yanukovych in favor of the state, in particular the hotel and restaurant complex in Sukholuchcha.
Cultural values from “Mezhyhirya” and “Sukholuchchya” will be transferred to museums that were looted by the Russian occupiers.
