“Europe should focus on the war with Russia and Ukraine because, frankly, you see what it has led them to. That’s what Europe should focus on, not Greenland,” the US president said.
Asked if he would impose tariffs on European countries if a deal on Greenland is not reached, Trump said: “I will do it 100%.”
The head of the White House refused to answer questions about whether he would use force to seize the island.
Also in the interview, Trump rejected the thesis that Norway has no influence on the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize.
“Norway has full control of this, despite what they say,” Trump said, ignoring the reporter’s arguments.
Earlier, the media reported that the US president wrote a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Har Støre, in which he linked his statements about the intention to take control of Greenland with the fact that he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
It will be recalled that on January 17, Trump announced the introduction of tariffs against a number of countries that do not agree with his claims to Greenland.
Before that, Denmark sent military equipment and an advanced detachment of troops to Greenland in preparation for receiving larger forces of the army and other allied units for military exercises. Several countries also sent their troops.
