The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Petr Matsinka criticized Pavel for this statement on the air of the Otázky Václav Moravce program, reports CT24.
Matsinka called the actions of the head of state “the behavior of an elephant in a china shop.” He added that the president of the Czech Republic did not consult the government when, during his visit to Kyiv, he made a statement about the transfer of aircraft to Ukraine.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic noted that Pavel does not have the authority to make such promises without coordination with the government. According to Matsinka, the statement of the president of the Czech Republic “could create problems in the coalition and reduce the chances of the actual provision of aircraft.”
It is added that issues related to the supply of aircraft to Ukraine should be discussed at the coalition council.
The President of the Czech Republic does not agree with the criticism directed at him. Pavel explained that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, did not offer a free transfer, but the purchase of the planes. In his opinion, this “could speed up the process and become profitable for the Czech manufacturer.” Pavel emphasized that the final decision should be made by the country’s government.
Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura, said that the president’s words were edited by the Ukrainian media, and the Czech media did not clarify the details and picked up the information.
Ukraine and the Czech Republic: the latest newsEarlier, UNIAN reported that the speaker of the lower house of the Czech parliament, Tomio Okamura, in his New Year’s speech stated that he was against providing weapons to Ukraine and complained about the “thieves of Zelensky’s junta.” Okamura expressed the opinion that the Czech Republic cannot use money belonging to pensioners, disabled people and families with children to buy weapons for Ukraine and continue an “absolutely senseless war”. He believes that the West profits from the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
We also wrote that the leader of the Czech initiative Dárek pro Putina (Gift for Putin), Martin Ondracek, said that after Okamura’s statement, the Czechs increased the number of weapons donations for Ukraine. In particular, for January 1, 2026, they received almost 26.5 thousand euros, and for January 2 – 32.35 thousand euros. Ondracek noted that these are large amounts, as citizens make more donations during the Christmas holidays.
