As of the morning of Saturday, January 17, 2026, Kyiv and the Kyiv region remain the regions with the worst situation in the energy system of Ukraine.
This is reported by the Ministry of Energy.
Due to infrastructure damage from recent attacks and network constraints, distribution system operators are forced to implement emergency and emergency power outages. Previously published schedules of hourly outages are temporarily not applied.
As noted in the department, the country’s power system operates under conditions of significant power deficit, which is aggravated by frosty weather and damage to generation facilities.
The Ministry of Energy states that in Kyiv and the Kyiv region network restrictions are applied, which make it impossible to maintain stable queues.
“The situation in the capital region remains the most difficult. Distribution system operators apply network restrictions in Kyiv and Kyiv region. The hourly blackout schedules previously published are currently not in effect. The return to the predicted hourly outages will take place immediately after the stabilization of the situation in the power system,” the message reads.
In addition, network restrictions continue to apply in Odesa.
On the night of January 17, consumers in Odesa and Kyiv regions were cut off due to the Russian attack. Energy workers, despite the difficult weather conditions, are working and doing everything possible to restore all subscribers as soon as possible.
Consumers in the front-line border regions remain without power for a long time as a result of hostilities. In such communities, the restoration of electricity supply is complicated by constant hostilities.
Due to bad weather, 20 settlements in Kyiv region remain without power. Repair crews are working to restore damaged lines.
In several areas, emergency shutdowns are forced due to equipment overload in conditions of high consumption during frost. In the rest of the regions, there are capacity limitation schedules for industry and hourly outage schedules for the public.
