The Czech Republic is ready to supply Ukraine with combat aircraft effective in the fight against enemy drones in the near future. This was stated by the country’s President Petr Pavel during a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelenskyi. It is also about the possible supply of early warning systems. It is reported Reuters.

“The Czech Republic can in a relatively short time deliver several medium combat aircraft that are very effective in the fight against drones, and I believe that we will be able to quickly and successfully resolve this issue,” Pavel said at a press conference together with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

The head of the Czech state did not specify which planes were in question. At the same time, he recalled that a few years ago, the possibility of transferring L-159 subsonic fighters to Ukraine was discussed. The Czech Republic uses these planes to train pilots and support ground forces. According to Reuters, the Czech army has 24 L-159 aircraft in single and two-seater configurations. The basis of the country’s combat aviation is currently 14 Swedish Saab JAS-39 Gripen fighters. In addition, the Czech Republic has ordered 24 American F-35 fighter jets, but their delivery is not expected until after 2030.

In addition to combat aircraft, Prague is also ready to help Ukraine with early warning devices. “We can supply early detection systems, including passive radars,” said Petr Pavel.

Reuters notes that the Czech Republic already has the experience of large-scale military support for Ukraine. Under the previous government, the country transferred heavy equipment from the warehouses of its army to Kyiv – tanks, armored vehicles and helicopters. Instead, Prague received compensation from NATO allies in the framework of rearmament with Western-style weapons.

The Czech president’s statement came against the backdrop of Russia’s constant drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. Strengthening the capabilities to counter drones remains one of Ukraine’s key requests to partners.
