On January 6, the 28-year-old footballer suffered a hip ligament injury during a Serie A match against Lecce (2:0). He was initially projected to miss only 2-3 weeks.
However, after repeated examinations, doctors concluded that the injury is more serious than expected and the player needs surgery.
Recovery from surgery is expected to take at least two months. Return to the field is predicted at the end of March – beginning of April. Because of this, Dovbyk’s participation in the March matches of the Ukrainian national team in the playoffs of selection for the 2026 World Cup is unlikely.
In the current season, the Ukrainian played 17 matches for Roma, scoring 3 goals and 2 assists.
