Minister of Veterans’ Affairs Nataliya Kalmykova, answering questions from the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, reported that the Ministry of Veterans Affairs has launched an official investigation into information about bookings from mobilization at the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NVMK).

Kalmykova’s direct speech: “Regarding bookings at NVMK, we have launched an official investigation in order to find out, if there are such facts, non-compliance with the legislation in the field of bookings during mobilization and martial law.”

Prehistory:

  • On January 12, People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak published a material in which he stated that co-hosts of the YouTube channel “Iceland” Volodymyr Petrov and Serhii Ivanov received booking from mobilization. According to the deputy, Petrov has been working at the state institution “National Military Memorial Cemetery” since July 31, 2025. and has a corresponding reservation from mobilization until January 21, 2026.
  • January 15 Verkhovna Rada on the second attempt summoned the Minister of Veterans Affairs Nataliya Kalmykova for a report on the issue of reservations from mobilization at the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NVMK).

  • In the first month, 108 defenders were buried at the National Memorial Cemetery – 11 identified and 97 whose names remain unknown.
  • The first known soldier who was buried at the NVMK was a soldier with the rank of chief sergeant Viktor Klymchuk with the call sign “Highlander”.
