Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the Batkivshchyna parliamentary faction, reported that her accounts were blocked, and this makes it impossible to pay the bail, which the prosecution plans to request in court on January 16.
Tymoshenko announced this on Facebook.
The politician called the situation surreal, since the funds she was going to use are compensation for political persecution during the time of President Viktor Yanukovych, whom she described in her statement as a short-sighted dictator. According to Tymoshenko, the blocking of the accounts took place even before the corresponding court decision, which she regards as another step within the framework of an openly commissioned political case aimed at removing her from the political arena.
Earlier, on January 14, NABU and SAP officially notified Yulia Tymoshenko of the suspicion of offering illegal benefits to people’s deputies for voting in the interests of her political power. The investigation claims that the leader of the faction tried to build a systematic mechanism for bribing parliamentarians, offering monthly payments of 10,000 dollars for loyalty during key votes, in particular regarding personnel changes in the government. To confirm these accusations, anti-corruption authorities published audio recordings of conversations and screenshots of correspondence in the Signal messenger, which recorded the giving of instructions to deputies, although Tymoshenko herself categorically denies her involvement in these materials.
The specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office (SAP) submitted a petition to the High Anti-Corruption Court to choose a preventive measure for Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” faction, in the form of a bail of 50 million hryvnias.
