On January 15, 2026, it was possible to take three more children who were under occupation under pressure from the Russian security forces to the controlled territory of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson regional military administration, said that among the rescued were sisters aged 11 and 13, as well as a boy. The families decided to leave after systematic searches and psychological pressure from the occupiers, in particular, a case was recorded at a checkpoint when an armed representative of the Russian Federation put a grenade in the trunk of their car to intimidate civilians.
The return of citizens became possible thanks to the coordination of state bodies and volunteers of the “Save Ukraine” charitable organization. As of mid-January 2026, the total number of children who managed to return home within the framework of the presidential program exceeded 1,960. Currently, all three children and their parents are in a safe place, where they are receiving psychological rehabilitation, medical assistance and support in recovering lost documents.
The authorities emphasize that living conditions in the occupied territories are becoming more and more dangerous due to forced passporting and the involvement of teenagers in Russian youth military organizations. Each case of successful evacuation is the result of long and difficult negotiations, as the Russian Federation often blocks the departure of families with school-age children. Work is currently underway on the next missions to rescue young Ukrainians who remain isolated and at risk of deportation.
Another group of children from TOT was returned to Kherson region.
Russia is re-educating captured Ukrainian children not only in its own centers and camps, but also involved its new partner – North Korea.
