War veteran Oleksandr “Teren” Budko received the Order of Merit III degree.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi personally presented him with an honorary award during an official ceremony held on January 14.
According to the veteran, it all started with a morning phone call – he was informed that he had to come to the awards ceremony the next day. Oleksandr admitted that such news came as a real surprise for him.
However, he willingly agreed and noted that it was a great honor for him to receive the order from the hands of the Commander-in-Chief.
Teren stressed that he never sought awards or state honors. He emphasized that he always acted not for the sake of recognition, but because he considered it his duty.
“I didn’t ask for medals and I didn’t wait for them. Just doing what I could to be helpful. Because if you wait only for a reward, it’s not a sincere thing,” the veteran shared in his post.
It will be recalled that Zelensky awarded state awards to the participants of the Invictus Games.
Zelensky also awarded 310 military personnel, half of them posthumously.
