The Armed Forces showed footage of the occupied ZNPP / photo ua.depositphotos.comRussian troops turned the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) into a site for military equipment and a training ground for UAV pilots.
The Ukrainian military managed to film what the territory of the captured station looks like now with the help of a reconnaissance drone. The video was published by the spokesman of the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn.
“This is a video of the Zaporizhzhya NPP from a reconnaissance UAV. The video is very, very fresh. It shows Russian military equipment standing right next to the nuclear reactors, which is a violation of international humanitarian law,” he emphasized.
Voloshyn noted that international humanitarian law directly prohibits the use of nuclear power plants as military facilities. But the Russians obviously don’t care.
“Knowing that we will not fire strikes on the nuclear plant, the Russians hide their military equipment here. They use the territory and facilities of the ZNPP as a training ground for their UAV operators,” continued the spokesperson of the Southern Defense Forces.
What’s more, there is evidence that the enemy carried out multiple anti-aircraft missile strikes on Zaporozhye from there.
“Do you think the IAEA experts, whose mission is on the station, see this?” Voloshyn asked.
The situation around the ZNPPThe Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been under enemy control since the beginning of March 2022. Violating all principles of nuclear security, the enemy placed military equipment there.
The status of ZANP plays a big role in the peace negotiations. Ukraine opposes the joint management of the ZNPP, as it would mean control over the power plant by Russia. It is known that the United States has also shown interest in the plant, seeing the ZNPP as an opportunity to advance American economic interests in a peace deal.
