Austrian tennis player Sebastian Ofner (ATP 131) suffered a disappointing defeat in the second round of qualifying for the 2026 Australian Open.

In the semifinals of the selection, the Austrian lost to the representative of the USA in three sets Nishesh Basavareddy (ATP 239) in 2 hours and 32 minutes. Basavareddy pulled off a victory over Offner in a third-game super tiebreak.

Sebastian led 7:1 at the super tie-break and after winning the point began to celebrate the victory. Sebastian started to walk towards the net, and the referee told him that the match was not over yet.

As a result, Ofner lost 11:13, missing two match points: one for 10:9 on the reception and one for 11:10 on the serve.

Basavareddy will compete against George Loffhagen (Great Britain, ATP 211) in the Australian Open qualifying final.

Three Ukrainian women are one step away from the foundation of the Aus Open. Whom will the team play in the final?
