Only 210 people’s deputies voted for Shmyhal’s appointment.
Deputies did not vote for Shmygal’s appointment as Minister of Energy / UNIAN photoThe Verkhovna Rada did not support the appointment of Denys Shmyhal as the First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
As People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported, 210 People’s Deputies voted for this decision for the required minimum of 226 votes. He added that the Minister of Energy was not in the country for 55 days.
Denis Shmyhal: what is known about himWe will remind you that Denys Shmyhal was the Prime Minister of Ukraine for more than 5 years, which is the longest tenure of one person in this position. In July 2025, President Zelensky decided on the transformation of the executive power and offered the post of Prime Minister to the then Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko.
On July 16, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to dismiss Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and his government.
At the same time, the president offered Shmyhal the position of Minister of Defense instead of Rustem Umerov. Zelenskyi said that “the enormous experience of Denys Shmygal will definitely be useful in the position of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.”
On July 17, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted to appoint Shmyhal to this position.
At the beginning of January, Zelensky offered Denys Shmyhal the post of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. The position of the head of the Ministry of Energy was vacant after the dismissal of Svitlana Grynchuk in November 2025 against the backdrop of a corruption scandal at Energoatom following an investigation by NABU.
