The last season in his career. Monfils left Oakland without being able to defend his title

French tennis player and Elina Svitolina’s husband Gael Monfils (ATP 110) completed his performance at the ATP 250 hard tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.

In the first round, the Frenchman lost in three sets Fabian Marozhan (Hungary, ATP 52) in 2 hours and 2 minutes.

Fabian Marozhan (Hungary) – Gael Monfils (France) – 5:7, 6:3, 6:4

Monfils held his fourth head-to-head match against Marozhan and lost to the Hungarian for the second time.

Gael was unable to defend last year’s trophy on the Auckland courts. The 39-year-old Frenchman is spending the last season of his career.

Marozhan will meet second-seeded Casper Ruud in the second round of the competition.
