At the same time, the speaker of the Iranian parliament said Iran was waging a “war on four fronts”, listing an economic war, a psychological war, a military war “with the US and Israel” and “today’s war against terrorists”, referring to the protesters.

Chanting “Death to Israel, Death to America,” Ghalibaf vowed that the Iranian military would teach Trump an “unforgettable lesson” if he struck Iran again.

Later on Monday, the White House said that Trump was “not afraid to use military force” but was seeking a diplomatic solution first.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt also told reporters that Tehran sends the United States “completely different” messages in private than those that are released publicly.

Trump said he was receiving “hourly updates” on the situation in Iran and that the U.S. military was “considering some very strong options,” including cyberattacks and direct strikes by the U.S. or Israel.

Asked about Iran’s threats to retaliate, he said: “If they do, we will hit them like they have never felt before.”

Aragchi said that Iran is “ready for war, but also for dialogue.”

Trump also said his administration was in talks to hold a meeting with Tehran, but warned he may have to act first as the death toll rises and the Iranian government continues to arrest protesters.

The protests in Iran, which began on December 28, were initially a reaction to the worsening economic crisis, but later turned into calls for the overthrow of the Iranian regime.

Iranian authorities have accused the US and Israel of orchestrating the unrest and called for a national rally on Monday to condemn “terrorist actions led” by the two countries.

The flow of information from Iran was restricted as authorities restricted internet access on Thursday. Trump said he would talk to Elon Musk about restoring Internet access through his Starlink satellite service.

Aragchi said internet access would be restored “soon” after it was down for nearly four days.

Prehistory:

  • Mass protests have been ongoing in Iran since the end of December 2025, which began due to the economic crisis and turned into an anti-government uprising. According to human rights defenders, the number of dead has already exceeded 500 people.
  • January 11 Trump Iran publicly warnedthat the United States would “step in” and help the protesters win their freedom if the ayatollah’s regime resorted to deadly violence against the demonstrators.
