The Polish court is considering the issue of extradition of the Russian to Ukraine, and the final decision should be made at the next meeting on Thursday, January 15.
The court decided that the extension of the detention period until March 4 is necessary for the effective implementation of the extradition procedure.
According to the judges, the crime the archaeologist is accused of has Polish equivalents and is being prosecuted in Poland. It was also confirmed that this crime is not subject to the statute of limitations, and the possibility of the Russian’s escape would remain high, since he does not have a permanent place of residence in Poland.
If the court finds the extradition legally admissible, the final decision on the transfer of the scientist to the Ukrainian authorities will be made by the Polish Minister of Justice.
We are probably talking about Alexander Butyagin, who in November 2024 the Security Service of Ukraine in absentia announced the suspicion.
In the Kremlin called this detention “arbitrary” and declared that they would work to release the archaeologist.
On January 8, they wrote that prosecutors of the district court in Warsaw, Poland support extradition to Ukraine, the Russian archaeologist Alexander B.
