January 11, 2026 is a historic date for Ukrainian tennis.

For the first time in history, two Ukrainian tennis players played in the finals of parallel WTA tournaments (category 250 and above).

On Sunday Elina Svitolina lost to Wang Xinyu in the deciding match of the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland, a Marta Kostyuk lost to Aryna Sobolenko in the match for the WTA 500 trophy in Brisbane.

Ukrainian commentator Oleksandr Chernenko published an interesting fact on his Telagram channel: “Has it happened before that two Ukrainian women played in the finals of WTA tournaments on the same day? This has never happened in the tournaments of the main Tour, but it happened once, if we take into account the tournaments of the WTA 125 category.”

On March 4, 2018, Lesia Tsurenko became the champion of the WTA 250 tournament in Acapulco, defeating Stefanie Fegele. On the same day, Kateryna Volodko (Bondarenko) lost to Sarah Errani in the final of the WTA 125 in Indian Wells.
