Direct speech: “At our urgent request following Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine, including the use of an intermediate-range ballistic missile, the UN Security Council will convene an emergency meeting on Monday, January 12, at 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time.

The issue of gross violations of the UN Charter by Russia will be considered at the meeting. We call on the members of the Security Council to demonstrate unity in their intentions, demanding an end to aggression, protection of the civilian population and unwavering support for the sovereignty of Ukraine.”
Details: Sybiga stressed that Russian attacks undermine international security and peace efforts by the United States, European states and other partners. The international community must act immediately to ensure accountability, increase pressure on the aggressor and restore lasting peace, he added.
What preceded: On the night of January 9, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with 278 means of air attack – 36 missiles and 242 drones of various types. Including, according to the Air Force, the Russian Federation used 1 medium-range ballistic missile (“Oreshnik”) – from the Kapustyn Yar range (Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation).
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that after the night air attack of the Russian Federation, in which Russia used the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile, a clear reaction of the world, in particular, the United States, is needed.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, said that the Russian Oreshnik missile attack on the Lviv region, near the borders of the EU and NATO, poses a threat to the security of Europe and requires a strong response from partners.
