US President Donald Trump is increasingly disappointed in Vladimir Putin and considers him a greater obstacle to peace in Ukraine than Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

Details: The publication’s interlocutors said that the US president’s decision to seize a Russian-flagged oil tanker and support a new sanctions bill was a signal to Putin that he was running out of time to end the war.

A source close to the closest circle of the US president noted: “He works on the principle of a whip and a gingerbread man. And I think he has run out of gingerbread men.”

Another interlocutor said that Trump finds the Russians’ “two steps forward, one step back” strategy in negotiations increasingly “tiring.”

Previously, Trump spoke warmly of Putin and declared that Ukraine was to blame for the war. However, according to several current and former officials in Washington, the Trump administration’s position is increasingly aligned with the European view that Putin is playing a game that has no end.

A day before Zelensky’s meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago at the end of last year, Russia launched ballistic missiles and drones over Kyiv. As a result, the Trump administration is closer to the European view of the conflict than ever before, a British official said. He said: “Putin’s continued brutality, devious behavior and games have not gone unnoticed by the administration.”

We will remind: During a recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump expressed his personal irritation with Putin. He said: “I’m not happy with Putin, he’s killing too many people.”

On Wednesday, American special forces risked a confrontation with Moscow when they boarded a Russian-registered tanker that had come under sanctions.

A few hours later, the White House confirmed that Trump had given the “green light” to the sanctions bill during a meeting with Lindsey Graham, one of the most prominent Russia hawks in the Senate.
