President Volodymyr Zelenskyi warned of a possible massive attack by Russia on the night of January 9 and called on Ukrainians not to ignore the alarm signal and go to shelter.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi appointed new heads of state administrations in Vinnytsia, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernivtsi regions. Natalya Zabolotna became the head of the Vinnytsia regional state administration, Vitaly Dyakivnych of Poltava, Oleksandr Ganja of Dnipropetrovsk, and Ruslan Osypenko of Chernivtsi.

Zelenskyi said that the bilateral document with the US on security guarantees is actually ready for finalization with President Trump. This happened as a result of yesterday’s negotiations in Paris.

The Kyiv Court of Appeals allowed MP Nestor Shufrych, who is suspected of treason, to be released from custody on bail of more than 33 million hryvnias.

As of January 8, Shufrych is still in the pretrial detention center, but the deputy’s lawyer noted that “of course, they plan to pay the bail.”

After the Russian attack on the energy infrastructure, the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions were almost completely cut off. Against this background, the mayor of Dnipro, Boris Filatov, declared that the city is in a state of national emergency. Despite this, the hospital began to gradually turn on the lights and the sewers were restored. Electric transport in Dnipro is being replaced by buses.

A total of 142 combat clashes took place since the beginning of this day. Ukrainian defenders resolutely repel the enemy’s attempts to advance deep into our territory.

Today, Russian forces carried out one missile and 15 air strikes, used two missiles and dropped 58 guided air bombs. In addition, 2,982 kamikaze drones were used for attacks and 3,055 attacks were carried out on the positions of our troops and populated areas.

In the North-Slobozhansk and Kursk directions, Ukrainian soldiers repelled three assaults by the occupiers. In addition, the enemy carried out 90 attacks on the positions of our troops and populated areas, including two from rocket salvo systems.

In the Yuzhno-Slobozhansk direction, the enemy stormed the positions of our units six times in the areas of the settlements of Bugruvatka, Vilcha, and Figolivka.

In the direction of Kupyansk, the aggressor tried four times to break through the defense of our defenders in the direction of Kupyansk, Petropavlivka and Nova Kruglyakivka, one battle remains unfinished

In the Lyman direction, Russian invaders attacked the positions of the Defense Forces eight times in the direction of the settlements of Drobysheve, Lyman, Stavka and in the Novoselyvka area. Two skirmishes are ongoing.

Ukrainian defenders in the Slavyansk direction repelled four assaults by the enemy’s troops — the invaders tried to advance near Siversk, Dronivka, and Fedorivka.

The enemy did not conduct offensive operations in the Kramatorsk direction. In the Kostiantynivka direction, the Russians attacked the positions of Ukrainian units 16 times in the areas of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultine, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Rusyn Yar, Sofiivka and in the direction of Stepanivka.

In the Pokrovsky direction, since the beginning of the day, the occupiers have tried to advance on the positions of Ukrainian units 27 times. The enemy attacked in the areas of Nikanorivka, Chervyn Lyman, Rodynske, Mirnograd, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filia, Dachne. In some locations, battles are still going on.

According to preliminary data, a total of 81 occupiers were neutralized in this direction today, 55 of them irreversibly. Also, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed four units of automobile equipment, one ATV, 14 BplA, four units of special equipment, and also hit eight shelters for enemy personnel.

In the Oleksandrivsk direction, the enemy tried 13 times to break through the defenses of our defenders in the areas of the settlements of Verbove, Vyshneve, Zlagoda, Rybne, Yehorivka, Sichneve and in the directions of the settlements of Ivanivka and Oleksandrograd. Four clashes are currently ongoing.

16 combat clashes were recorded in the Gulyaipil direction, the enemy tried to advance in the areas of the settlements of Solodke, Gulyaipole and in the area of ​​Varvarivka. Two skirmishes are ongoing. Yuliivka, Rizdvyanka, Girke, Verkhnya Tersa, Lyubitske and Zaliznychne were hit by enemy airstrikes.

In the Orihiv direction, one battle is currently ongoing in the area of ​​Maly Shcherbaki.

In the Dnieper direction, the enemy tried unsuccessfully three times to break through the defense of our defenders in the area of ​​the Antoniv bridge.

Dear Ukrainians, Ukrainian women! All day today there are reports from the government and all services, which are actually working around the clock to eliminate the consequences of the Russian strikes. Dniprovshchyna, Zaporizhzhia – after the attack on the infrastructure, the situation with electricity and all supplies was extremely difficult.

Necessary resources are engaged. Thanks to all the repair crews, thanks to the communal services, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, all the energy companies – the work continues without interruption.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, energy supply was restored according to the schedule in the afternoon. Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Nikopol, Pavlograd and other cities and communities of the Dnipro Oblast are still in operation. Today, unfortunately, there were also new strikes – specifically on energy and the civil sector, in Kryvyi Rih – on residential buildings. There is information that tonight there may be a new massive Russian strike.

It is very important to pay attention to air alarms today, tomorrow, to constantly descend into shelter. The Russians are unchanged, they try to take advantage of the weather.

I instructed the government to help the local authorities to help as much as possible, everyone involved. Together with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, they checked the reports from the regions – not all reports are true. There will be conclusions. He sent the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction to Dnipro to personally monitor the work and promptly resolve issues with assistance. Every effort is being made to restore supplies.

Also, the weather conditions have significantly worsened in various of our regions – there are many problems on the roads, problems with networks. In fact, this is a state of emergency for all services. And they agreed with the Prime Minister of Ukraine that the government will prepare a decision – during such weather conditions, these days, to provide an opportunity for non-critical institutions, ordinary offices to leave people at home.

Also, in cooperation with the local authorities, the parameters of the schools’ work in such conditions should be defined this week and the next.

Today, the documents regarding the new heads of four regions have already been prepared. I signed these decrees. In the near future, the leaders will be presented: Poltava Oblast, Chernivtsi Oblast, Vinnytsia Oblast, and Dnipro Oblast.

They worked very objectively on the main political document, and from our side it is completely constructive. The American team must get an answer from Russia, what they are ready for and whether they can really end the war.

We believe that only pressure will solve this – pressure on Russia, and only if it is sufficient. Currently, Russia is betting more on winter than on diplomacy, on ballistics against our energy, and not on working with America and agreements with President Trump. This should be changed, and it should be changed precisely by putting pressure on Russia and supporting Ukraine.
