The Embassy of Ukraine in the USA has made an official inquiry as to whether Ukrainian citizens were among the crew members of the detained tankers.

What preceded:
- The US command in Europe announced the seizure of the Bella 1 vessel for violating US sanctions. An oil tanker bound for Venezuela was captured after more than two weeks of pursuit across the Atlantic Ocean.
- The Russian Ministry of Transport said that the tanker seized by the United States in the Atlantic Ocean has a temporary permit to sail under the flag of the Russian Federation.
- US Vice President JD Vance stated that the Bella 1 tanker, which was later re-registered in the Russian Federation under the name Marinera, only pretended to be Russian in order to circumvent sanctions and avoid responsibility.
- The US Coast Guard also seized another tanker in the Caribbean Sea, which is under US sanctions and is linked to the so-called “shadow fleet” of Russia.
