The American Federation of Musicians’ Los Angeles Local will soon have a new president.

Marc Sazer has been elected president of the roughly 5,000-person Local 47, the union announced on Tuesday. The violinist has served as vice president of the Local since 2022 and succeeds Stephanie O’Keefe, who has led the union since 2021.

“I am thrilled to be able to work to advance musicians’ interests in this new role. We’ve assembled a stellar leadership team, and look forward with optimism and excitement to helping our musical community build a strong and thriving future together,” Sazer said in a statement.

Over the course of a long musical career, Sazer has performed for television shows including Agents of SHIELD and Empire and for films such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The Peabody Conservatory graduate has also recorded for Frank Sinatra, Shirley Horn and Randy Newman.

Also elected this cycle was John Acosta, a former Local 47 president who will serve as vice president. Gail Kruvand was re-elected to the secretary/treasurer position, which she has held since 2023. All three leaders ran unopposed.

The election additionally saw Alex Iles, Bonnie Janofsky and Phil O’Connor elected as trustees. Allison Allport, Marcus Eley, Pam Gates, Lynn Grants, Aaron Smith and Meredith Snow were elected as directors and Scott Higgins, Marisa McLeod, Allen Savedoff and Byron Sleugh won positions as hearing officers.
Allison Allport, Phil O’Connor and Meredith Snow were named as AFM Delegates.

The union’s new officers and executive board members will be sworn into office on January 12, when they will start their three-year terms.
