The Kherson Diocese expressed their condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased and called for prayers for the clergyman.
Reference: Archpriest George Horbenko was born on February 10, 1961 in Kherson. Since 1995, he served as a priest in the St. Catherine’s Cathedral in Kherson. He was ordained a deacon on March 7, 1998, and a priest on April 26, 1998 (Bishop Iov of Kherson and Tavriy).
He was the abbot of the Intercession Church in the village of Velyka Kardashinka and the church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Holy Mother of God in the village of Zavodovka. On March 19, 2007, Archbishop Ioann of Kherson and Tavria awarded him a pectoral cross.
On April 1, 2011, Horbenko was transferred from the Novokakhov Diocese to the Kherson Diocese and assigned to pastoral ministry at the Church of the Great Martyr Ekaterina in the village of Rozdolne and the Church of the Righteous Joakim and Anna in the village of Preobrazhenka.
On February 18, 2020, he was appointed abbot of the Church of the Intercession in the village of Orlove, and before Easter, Metropolitan Ioann of Kherson and Tavria elevated him to the rank of archpriest.
