The director of the team of the three-time absolute world champion in super heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk Sergey Lapin explained why the Ukrainian challenged Deontay Wilder.
“The idea of a fight with Wilder in the USA appeared to Alexander back in 2020. Unfortunately, the circumstances did not work out then – not everything depended on us, and the level of organizational readiness simply did not allow this match to be held as it deserved. Now the situation is different – both in scale and in terms of opportunities,” said Lapin.
We will remind, in July, Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois and became the absolute world champion for the third time. Wilder defeated Tyrrell Herndon by TKO in the seventh round in June.
