Rayo Vallecano ended 2025 with an away defeat against Elche (0:4). Then, the winless streak of Iñigo Perez’s team in the championship reached seven matches (4H, 3D), in which the club’s players scored only one goal. Carlos Corberan’s team failed to cope with Mallorca at home (1:1) earlier in the tour. Valencia needs points, because the distance from 18th Girona in the relegation zone is only one point. However, the club’s unbeaten away run in La Liga (4W, 6D) casts considerable doubt over its ability to hold on to even a draw against Celta.

[12] Osasuna — Athletic Bilbao [8] Saturday, January 3, 5:15 p.m. El Sadar Stadium, Pamplona

Osasuna ended 2025 with a convincing 3-0 home win over Alaves and now look to start a new one with a third consecutive La Liga dry spell at home. Nevertheless, Alessio Lisci’s team in the 2025/26 season did not beat any of the clubs that are currently in the top 10 of the tournament table. We expect that the guests from Bilbao will not allow the Pamplonians to change this situation either.

With seven wins and three defeats in their last ten league matches at Estadio El Sadar, Athletic will be confident of their ability to pick up at least one point. Ernesto Valverde’s men have a lot to prove after two consecutive defeats in La Liga, but their away form is questionable, while their upcoming opponents are only comfortable at home.

[9] Elche — Villarreal [4] Saturday, January 3, 7:30 p.m. Estadio Martinez Valero, Elche

Elche continued its unbeaten home streak in La Liga (5W, 4H) by defeating Rayo Vallecano (4:0) a round earlier. Eder Sarabia’s team managed to take points away from Real Madrid at the Estadio Martínez Valero in November and now they will try to achieve the same in a duel with another, on paper, less dangerous opponent from the top 4 of the championship standings.

Villarreal closed 2025 with a home defeat against Barcelona (0:2), saying goodbye, at least for a while, to the third place in La Liga, which was intercepted by Atletico Madrid. Marcelino’s side come into the upcoming clash on the back of three consecutive defeats and are looking to rehabilitate themselves in front of their fans, although there are doubts over their three points on Saturday.

[10] Sevilla – Levante [20] Sunday, January 4, 3:00 p.m. Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Seville

A round earlier, Sevilla expectedly failed to avoid a defeat against Real Madrid in Madrid (0:2), but already this Sunday Matias Almeida’s wards will rightfully expect only victory. The club from the city of the same name are on a nine-match unbeaten run against Levante in all competitions (8W, 1L) and are ready to extend it on Sunday.

The club from Valencia is about to make its debut under the leadership of Luis Castro. Levante have not won in La Liga since the beginning of October (2W, 6W), in the 17th round due to a draw with Real Sociedad, interrupting their losing streak of five matches. At the same time, the winless streak in Sunday’s duel with Sevilla will almost certainly reach the mark of nine matches.

Yagoba Arra collective sate have drawn with three other relegation contenders in the previous four rounds and are now serious about extending their gap to the outsiders.

Girona ended 2025 with an expected home defeat against Atletico Madrid (0:3). Michel’s men are still in the relegation zone and need points. The Catalan club have not beaten Mallorca away from home since May 2015 (W2D5D) and will be looking to end that run with the upcoming face-to-face encounter.
