In an evening video message, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that January 2 will be an important day for the domestic politics of Ukraine. According to him, the authorities are actively preparing for a series of key meetings and negotiations that will strengthen political confidence in the future peace agreement and security guarantees for the country.
The Secretary of the National Security Council, Rustem Umerov, is in Turkey today, where he is discussing the resumption of the exchange of prisoners. Zelenskyi emphasized that the process was actively moving last year, but at the end it slowed down, and now Ukraine is striving to restore it. Umerov coordinates actions with American and European partners on a daily basis to make the exchange process as efficient as possible.
The President reminded of upcoming important meetings: January 3 — the first meeting of advisers on national security issues with the participation of representatives of 15 countries, the EU and NATO; January 5 — a meeting of the chiefs of the General Staff regarding security guarantees; January 6 — a meeting of the leaders of European states in the format of the “Coalition of the Willing” to strengthen support for Ukraine. “We are preparing now so that the meeting will be productive, and that there will be more support, and that there will be more political confidence in terms of guarantees and the peace agreement,” Zelenskyy said.
The head of state also thanked the Ukrainians who are working on recovery after the Russian strikes. “Even on New Year’s Eve, the Russians did not hold back. That’s how they are. But we are defending and rebuilding. Such Ukrainians. And tomorrow will be an important day of internal politics for Ukraine,” the president added.
