On January 1, 2026, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umyerov, met in Ankara with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Hakan Fidan.

The day before, on December 31, Umerov held talks with the US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and European national security advisers. According to the NSDC secretary, the parties coordinated their positions and planned further meetings with European and American partners in January.
The next meeting will be held on January 3 in the format of national security advisors. Representatives of more than 10 countries, as well as NATO, the European Commission and the European Council, are expected to participate. US partners will likely join online.
