The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the release from captivity of nine sailors who were captured by pirates in the waters of Equatorial Guinea, two of them are citizens of Ukraine.

“Thanks to the active efforts of the shipowner and his representatives, as well as the direct assistance of colleagues from the Embassy of Ukraine in Senegal, on December 25, 2025, nine sailors captured by pirates were released from captivity. Among them are two citizens of Ukraine,” the department of the consular service reported on Facebook.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that on December 3, a ship flying the Portuguese flag was attacked by pirates in the territorial waters of Equatorial Guinea. Then the pirates kidnapped nine crew members, including two Ukrainians.
