Details: The accident happened near the city of Nisanda. The train that derailed was carrying 250 people: 9 crew members and 241 passengers.

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that five victims were in critical condition. She added that officials were sent to the scene to provide assistance to the families of the victims.
The governor of the state of Oaxaca said that the authorities are coordinating their actions with the federal authorities to provide assistance to the victims.
Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office has already opened an investigation into the incident.
Reuters adds that the train was launched in 2023 as part of the Interoceanic Corridor, which aims to connect a Pacific port with a Gulf of Mexico port.
