A court in the Chernivtsi region found a 30-year-old resident of the region guilty of causing a fatal accident under the influence of alcohol and sentenced him to six years in prison.
According to the notification of the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor’s office dated December 28, 2025, the convict was also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for five years. The tragic event happened back in the summer of 2021 on Halytsky Shlyach street in Chernivtsi, when the accused, moving at a speed of 110 km/h, collided with a tractor, which led to the death of his 21-year-old passenger.
Immediately after committing the crime, the driver illegally crossed the state border and hid from justice on the territory of the European Union. Ukrainian law enforcement officers declared the perpetrator an international wanted by Interpol, which finally brought results only in January 2025. Then the man was detained by law enforcement agencies in Germany, after which the extradition procedure was launched to conduct a trial on the territory of Ukraine.
During the final hearing, the defendant fully admitted his guilt in violation of road safety rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated. The court took into account the long time of hiding as an aggravating circumstance, assigning a real term of imprisonment. This sentence was the logical conclusion of the four-year cooperation of Ukrainian and European law enforcement agencies in the case of bringing to justice the perpetrators of fatal accidents, regardless of their location.
Earlier, a former official of the State Automobile Inspection Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Cherkasy Region was extradited from Germany to Ukraine . He I suspect there are i.e sia in illegal legalization premium cars .
