This year’s winter in the Ukrainian Carpathians turned out to be abnormally warm, which was the main reason for the delay in the opening of the ski season. Traditionally, the Bukovel resort launches tracks at the end of November – beginning of December, but this time the snow appeared only in the middle of December and was fragmentary, which made it impossible to prepare the slopes.
“The start of the season became possible thanks to the stabilization of weather conditions and the formation of the necessary snow cushion,” the Bukovel administration reported. However, some tracks may be opened in stages, depending on the thickness of the snow and its uniformity.
As of the end of December, local but intense snowfalls were recorded in the Carpathians, which made it possible to form a uniform layer on the upper and middle sections of the slopes. Online cameras record a stable snow cover that is already ready for skiing.
The administration also informs that in the coming days, the number of available tracks is planned to be expanded depending on further weather conditions. Thus, Bukovel is preparing to receive skiers and snowboarders, and winter sports lovers can plan their trips for the holidays.
