Tottenham centre-back Mickey van de Ven has offered his deepest condolences to Liverpool striker Alexander Isak following the incident that took place in the last match between the teams.

The Swedish forward, who joined the Reds last summer, broke his tibia and has already undergone surgery.

Speaking to Sky Sports journalists, the Dutch defender emphasized that his actions were aimed solely at blocking the shot, and not at causing damage to the opponent. Van de Ven confirmed that he had already contacted Isaac personally.

“I sent him a message because I didn’t want to hurt him or hurt him in any way. I was just trying to block the shot. I think it was an accident – his leg landed between my legs badly. I wished him the best and hope to see him on the field as soon as possible. He appreciated my message and replied to me,” said Mickey.

Despite the player’s apology, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot called van de Ven’s tackle irresponsible. According to Slott, such actions are ten times more likely to lead to injuries than clean selection. The coach of the Merseysiders did not hide his disappointment, because Isak, who managed to score in that match, will now miss at least several months.

Instead, Spurs manager Thomas Frank came to the defense of his ward. He stated that Mickey is a true professional and his efforts to prevent a goal in the tackle is a natural instinct of any defender.

For Alexander Isak, who just started his story at Anfield, this injury was a serious blow. Despite the successful operation, Liverpool’s coaching staff is forced to look for options to replace their star forward for the crucial part of the season.
