But despite his success so far at the tournament, it seems Evans already has one eye on his plans for the future, and especially on playing Premier League Darts.
He said: “Tell me a darts match that I’ve been in that has been boring, that’s what I’m saying. I’m fun, I can make a 3-0 defeat seem fun. It’s just me, it’s the way it is.
“Watch me at Super League or county, I’m the same person, I’m the same idiot. I normally win those 3-0 or 4-0s. Yeah, I’m box office.
“I’m not Premier League standard, but cor, you’d have a better Premier League if I was in it! Is that the dream? Of course it is.
“I’m one of these people, I’m a big music buff. If I was in Cardiff, I’d have Tom Jones, or if I was in Scotland, I’d have The Proclaimers, bagpipes, I’d walk on with my own kilt, that kind of stuff.
“That’s the dream but I say it every year and it never works, because I’m not good enough. If I’m World Champion, they have to put me in.”
Evans is a cult hero in darts and has one of the more dedicated fanbases in the sport.

His hijinks with changing his walk-on theme generate a buzz wherever he plays, and the same is true of his upcoming third-round face-off with wonderkid Charlie Manby.
He continued: “Madonna’s back – Like a prayer. It went down well last year, although I lost. I mean if I lose this year with it, you’re getting it. It went down well last year and it’ll go down well next game.
Evans was emotional after beating James Wade in the second roundCredit: Shutterstock Editorial “It’s amazing to have the fans behind me. I’m just a working darts player. I’m playing darts every day of my life, as much as I can. Local leagues, pub leagues, they’re cheering me on.
“I’m not your Luke Littler, I’m not (Luke) Humphries, I’m not Gerwyn Price. I’m Ricky Evans from Kettering, world number 40. I probably haven’t gone higher because of the ranking system.”
Despite being aware of his committed fanbase, Evans admitted he does not know why they have such an affinity for him.
He added: “I play to win darts matches, I don’t turn up here to lose. And they always seem to love me, I don’t know why.
“We could go back to the hotel now and there’ll be someone there going, I love you. If I was losing, I’d go back to travel on the motorway. There’s always someone in the services, like, I love you, unlucky mate. There’s always someone there.
“It doesn’t make sense because, like I said, I’m never one to think. I’m not your top ten in the world. You don’t see me on TV all the time.

“There’s a lot more famous. Minehead, they love me there. Why? It’s brilliant. Carry on. More.”
Evans will enjoy every bit of support he receives at what has been an emotional tournament for him so far.
He broke into tears after dumping Wade out of the competition on Monday, before dedicating the win to his late sister Elisha.
His younger sibling, who had suffered a variety of health issues in her late twenties, tragically passed in March.
He said after the win: “I don’t want to get too emotional. My sister hit that double for me there.
“Elisha, we are going girl, we are going.”
