President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ordered the preparation of proposals for arranging holiday and special dates in the state calendar, taking into account the realities of war and the principles of social justice.
The head of state announced this during an evening address in Telegram.
According to the President, he discussed the relevant issue with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk.
“Today we spoke with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk. Among other things, I asked Ruslan, together with the deputies, also together with government officials, with representatives of civil society, to prepare proposals for defining new and logical approaches to the holidays and special days of our calendar,” Zelenskyi said.
The head of state drew attention to the problems that arose due to historical and military circumstances.
“There are bad calendar coincidences – and the war made many such changes. When the days of tragedies fall on the days of professional holidays,” the President emphasized.
He also mentioned the outdated legacy of the Soviet period.
“Or when in one day from Soviet times and the first years of independence – several completely different professional days. All this should be put in order,” Zelensky emphasized.
The President gave an example of successful changes in the calendar, including the postponement of the Christmas celebration.
“Just as the real Christmas was taken lightly – on December 25 – so other dates should be fair and correct,” he explained.
Zelensky thanked everyone who will join this work.
“Thank you to everyone who works for our state and people!” – concluded the head of state.
