Donald Trump’s administration continues to increase pressure on the regime of Nicolás Maduro, intercepting a third oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela.

According to Bloomberg, the last vessel detained was a tanker Bella 1 under the flag of Panama. At the time of the interception, the ship was heading to Venezuela to load oil, being under the influence of American sanctions.

This detention was part of the “total oil blockade” announced by Trump, the purpose of which is to cut off the main financial flows of the Caracas regime. Earlier this month, on December 10, American special forces detained a supertanker Skipper and later – a ship Centuries which loaded about 1.8 million barrels of oil. The White House classifies these vessels as part of a “shadow fleet” used to finance illegal activities.

The increased patrolling of the Caribbean by the huge US armada poses critical risks to the state-owned company Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA). Industry experts note that due to the impossibility of exporting raw materials, Venezuelan oil storage facilities are quickly overflowing. This forces the company to shut down oil wells, which in the long run could lead to the irreversible destruction of the country’s mining infrastructure.

Donald Trump justifies his actions by the need to return the assets of American energy companies that were nationalized by Venezuela during the time of Hugo Chávez. In addition to economic claims, Washington accuses the Maduro regime of “narco-terrorism” and human trafficking. The blockade will continue until Caracas returns “stolen property and land” or until there is a change of government in the country.
