President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin currently does not feel such pressure from the US that would encourage him to agree to peace in Ukraine, so this pressure should be intensified.

Details: Zelenskyi said that Russia “cannot independently change its position”, which consists in the complete occupation of Ukraine and the destruction of its independence. Therefore, in his opinion, additional pressure is needed on the Russian Federation, in particular on its revenues.

Zelensky’s direct speech: “And since we understand that, as they say in the anecdote, Galya is spoiled by them, in my opinion, America should put a little more pressure on the “Russians” and not give an alternative.

If this (Russia’s actions. – ed.) is not diplomacy, America must clearly say: if not diplomacy, then there will be all the pressure. Fully. There will be a very strong package of weapons for Ukraine, there will be very strong support for Ukraine, the United States will impose sanctions completely on the entire economy and on all sectors that bring money (to Russia. – ed.).”

Details: According to Zelenskyi, “Putin does not yet feel the pressure he should be, and we hear this in his daily rhetoric.”

What happened before:

  • US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in October that the United States is ready to work with other G7 countries to increase pressure on Russia.
  • In November, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that there are not many sanctions left at the disposal of the US administration that could be imposed on Russia.
