This was stated by the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR) Kyrylo Budanov.
In his opinion, the partial termination of free assistance in the field of intelligence will not become catastrophic if current commercial contracts are preserved. At the same time, Ukraine’s dependence on the US in satellite intelligence has two components: free access within the limits of aid and paid contracts.
“If only free access to optical satellite imaging is terminated, Ukraine will lose about 15-17% of opportunities, which is not critical. As for the radar survey, the losses will be approximately 46%, which will complicate the situation, but will not lead to a collapse,” Budanov said.
At the same time, according to him, the blocking of commercial contracts will have much more serious consequences: “It will be critical if a political decision is made and contracts are blocked. Since then, we have been falling almost to zero.”
Separately, the head of the GUR emphasized that another area of Ukraine’s critical dependence on the United States is the ballistic threat early warning system. In other components of intelligence, the country mainly relies on its own capabilities.
It will be recalled that at the end of February, during a visit to the White House, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky quarreled with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, after which Trump stated that Zelensky allegedly did not want to end the war with Russia.
US intelligence reports continue to warn that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin intends to take over all of Ukraine and reclaim parts of Europe that belonged to the former Soviet empire.
