Public opinion in Ukraine regarding war and peace remains stable, and a “kind of consensus” has formed among the population.
About it in the interview RBC-Ukraine said the executive director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, Anton Hrushetskyi.
According to him, the majority of Ukrainians are ready for negotiations and even difficult compromises, but more than 70% of citizens reject the official recognition of the occupied territories by Russia, the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the controlled territories, the significant reduction of the army and the lack of reliable security guarantees. This indicator has remained unchanged since September.
At the same time, according to polls, more than 70% of Ukrainians were ready to accept the option proposed by Europe, which involves freezing the front line on the condition that Ukraine obtains security guarantees and without official recognition of the occupied territories as part of the Russian Federation.
“Ukrainians are not an obstacle to achieving peace through political and diplomatic means,” Hrushetsky emphasized.
The sociologist also noted that about 70% of citizens report a deterioration in their psycho-emotional state due to the war, and 63% are ready to endure it as long as it is necessary to achieve conditions acceptable to Ukraine. Only 9% of respondents expect the end of the war by the beginning of 2026.
According to the head of KMIS, the majority of Ukrainians perceive Russia as an existential threat and do not believe in “easy solutions”. Even in the case of possible agreements with security guarantees, a significant part of the respondents believe that the Russian Federation may start aggression against Ukraine again.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has once again announced his intention to expand control over Ukrainian lands if Ukraine and its allies refuse to negotiate with the United States to end the conflict.
Also Putin stated that the war against Ukraine was allegedly started not by Russia in 2022, but by the West.
According to the results of the Levada Center survey, the key topic which worries citizens of the Russian Federation and they would like to ask on the “Direct Line” with Putin, the question became about the terms of the end of the war against Ukraine.
