Details: On Thursday, 22 rail tankers with 1,210 tons of AI-95 gasoline produced by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR were delivered and headed to Armenia via Georgia.
Officials from both countries said the export was a significant step that went beyond political statements and demonstrated the practical economic benefits of peace.
The fuel supply is the result of an agreement reached on November 28 in Gabala, in northwestern Azerbaijan, where Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev met with his Armenian counterpart, Mher Grigoryan.
Currently, Armenia imports more than 60% of fuel from Russia – 230,000 tons of gasoline and 175,000 tons of diesel fuel in 2024, while the rest comes from Iran, Romania, Malta and Turkey.
On August 8, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan signed in the White House, in the presence of US President Donald Trump, an agreement including the creation of a transit corridor, which will be called the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity”.
